About the organisation
The Australasian Association of Nuclear Medical Specialists (AANMS) is a representative body of medical practitioners working to promote and advance the clinical practice of nuclear medicine for both diagnosis and therapy.
About the role
There are four key areas to this role:
- Education and Training
- Member communication and enhancement of the member offer
- Liaising with all key stakeholders on behalf of our patients and membership
- Governance and risk and the general running of the Association
The GM will work closely with the Administration Officer, Education Officer and Board in delivering these services.
This is both a high level and hands on role; heading up a small team also means you contribute administratively as well as manage the association strategically.
The education and membership offer are key to why we exist and what we do. The GM role will ensure we deliver for our membership, our trainees and our specialty.
They will implement, oversee and monitor all governance and risk matters for the Association and will run the effective operation of governance, administration, HR, financial and other related internal functions of the organisation. They will work closely with a contracted Chief Financial Officer regarding the organisation’s finances.
The GM will possess the necessary skills and professional experience to liaise with and maintain relationships key stakeholders, including senior government department heads, ministers, MPs and other medical organisations on priority issues affecting AANMS members.
The GM will provide expert assistance and support to the Board in relation to strategy development, business planning and implementation, and will support the Board as they set the direction for the organisation.
They will provide administrative leadership and support to ensure the effective operation of the Association as part of the Secretariat team.
Each team member will have delegated responsibilities and tasks, however the GM will be across all tasks and be able to fill in and assist each member of the Secretariat.
Key tasks are as follows:
- Be instrumental in the development and implementation of the organisation’s short and long-term strategic and business plan
- Liaise on behalf of the Association with key stakeholders, government entities, and other organisations
- Maintain awareness of the industry and associated opportunities
- Maintain good relations between the Association and its members
- Manage the governance of the Association including ASIC requirements, the Board and Board Committees and Continuous Improvement Program
- Manage the risk of the Association in accordance with current risk legislation, policies and procedures
- Support team members in their roles ensuring all obligations and requirements are met.
The full-time hours include occasional weekend and out of hours work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Maintain good relations between the Association and its members

- Manage the risk of the Association in accordance with current risk legislation, policies and procedures
- Support team members in their roles ensuring all obligations and requirements are met
- Oversee and help coordinate the educational activities of the Association with the Secretariat, in particular the Education Officer key tasks
You will need to demonstrate:
- Extensive management, governance and risk experience
- Experience in reporting to boards
- Experience in leading teams and project coordination
- Demonstrated ability to act with autonomy with limited direction, to undertake a range of tasks with minimal direct supervision and within time constraints – proactivity in this role is key
- Demonstrated ability to plan, document, implement and monitor activities designed to improve efficiency and output
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities
Key Selection Criteria:
- CEO/GM experience required
- Company Secretary experience required
- Ideally qualifications as a governance and risk specialist
- Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement and management
- Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, with an ability to take the initiative, understand the challenges and make effective decisions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
